Elkins High School Band Prepares for Assessment
EHS band students have been hard at work preparing for their upcoming band assessment, and their dedication is truly inspiring.
In a special rehearsal, students from Midland's band, along with EHS faculty, staff, and students, joined in to observe and support the EHS band members. Band Director, Mr. Blake took the opportunity to highlight the deep academic connections embedded in each piece the band is performing—proving that music is more than notes on a page; it's a journey through history, science, social-emotional wellness, and literature.
Here's a look at the powerful program:
🔊 Tuning Chorales – A hands-on exploration of sound wave production, acoustics, and how open space alters tone quality. (Physics/Trigonometry)
💙 Stay – A moving piece promoting social-emotional wellness, affirming that "the world is better with you in it." (Capturing Kids’ Hearts)
🌍 Second Suite in F – A neo-classical composition reflecting the emotional landscape following World War I, from simplicity and lament to industrialization and celebration. (History)
📖 Mystery on Mena Mountain – A vivid tone poem inspired by a legend from the Ozark Mountains, capturing imagination and storytelling through sound. (ELA)
This was a great day to be at Elkins High School!

Randolph County PreK Application Day
May 14, 2025

Due to our harsh winter weather this year, students WILL attend school Monday, April 14 through Thursday, April 17, 2025. There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, April 18th. Students return to school on Monday, April 21st. We hope families enjoy a 3-day weekend!

Our brilliant second graders in Mrs. Hughes' class at JRES scrubbed in and performed their very first letterectomies! With gloves on and tools ready, they removed letters and stitched together new words to form contractions like true word surgeons.
From turning “cannot” into “can’t” and “they are” into “they’re,” our students showed off their grammar skills in the most memorable way.
Experiences like these are what make learning unforgettable—and it’s why coming to school every day matters! Each day is a chance to grow, explore, and be part of something special.
Attendance Matters - Each School Day Counts. Every. One.
So Thrive for 5!
