PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAMS

A high-quality Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) experience is one of the most important opportunities we can give our children. High-quality Pre-K helps to develop children’s physical, cognitive, literacy, social, and emotional skills and sets a positive trajectory for later school success. Research shows that children who participate in high-quality preschool programs demonstrate high achievement levels in the elementary grades, show greater interest in learning, and are more likely to graduate from high school.

The Randolph County Universal Pre-K Program provides “top-notch” classrooms and early childhood educators who ensure that every child’s needs are met using best practices and developmentally appropriate curriculum. Our high-quality Pre-K program enhances children’s overall development and promotes early exposure to learning through active exploration and discovery.

“Randolph County Schools Pre-K classrooms utilize the High Scope Curriculum to reinforce and strengthen overall progress and development of the “whole child.” The program is designed to build the skills children need to be successful in kindergarten and lay a foundation for lifelong learning. Research supports the need for a balance of teacher directed and child-initiated instruction. Randolph County Pre-K classrooms offer the time, space, and material necessary to create effective environments for learning” according to LaDonna Rosencrance, Director of Child Nutrition and Pre-K for Randolph County Schools.

Randolph County Pre-K teachers are purposeful in planning and providing classrooms where learning and practice take place through a context of play. The classrooms are equipped in a manner that supports discovery, small groups, individual learning, exploration, problem solving, and development. Daily instruction is individualized based on informal and formal assessments and addresses the West Virginia Pre-K Standards (Ages 3-5).

The Randolph County Pre-K Program truly empowers our young children to be life-long learners and true leaders of tomorrow in a high-quality and developmentally appropriate environment.
If your child will be 4 years old by June 30, 2023, please call 304-636-2363 to complete the application process. You will need to provide a certificate of birth, immunization record, health check from doctor, and proof of a dental exam.
